The Bible's most famous description was written not for a wedding but for a church tearing itself apart: "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no account of wrongs" (1 Corinthians 13:4-8). Every phrase is doable and none of it is easy — which is exactly the point. This is love as practice, not performance.
What does the Bible say about love at its source? It starts with God, not with us: "And love consists in this: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as the atoning sacrifice for our sins" (1 John 4:9-11). The verses under God's love for you — John 3:16, Romans 5:8, Jeremiah 31:3, Zephaniah 3:17 — all make the same claim from different angles: you were loved first, before you earned anything, and while you were still a mess.
From there scripture turns love outward. "This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends" (John 15:12-13). And in case love stays theoretical: "Little children, let us love not in word and speech, but in action and truth" (1 John 3:18).
