Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

About this verse
Two small words carry this sentence. "Now" — present tense, effective immediately, not after a probationary period of improvement. And "no" — not reduced condemnation, not manageable condemnation; none. "Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." The language is a courtroom's: this is a verdict being read, not an aspiration being described.
Placement is everything here. This verse follows directly on Romans 7, where Paul narrates the war every honest believer recognizes — wanting the good, doing the other thing — and ends in a cry of wretchedness. Chapter 8 answers that cry, and notice what it opens with: not advice, not a technique for trying harder, but a verdict already rendered. The "therefore" reaches back through the whole letter's argument that God justifies people by faith in Christ.
The reader this verse is for is the one replaying last night's failure at three in the morning. It helps to distinguish condemnation from conviction: conviction names a specific wrong and draws you toward God to deal with it; condemnation pronounces you hopeless and drives you away. This verse eliminates the second category entirely for those in Christ. The war of chapter 7 may continue. The verdict of 8:1 stands during it.
