Baptism is one of the most asked-about practices in scripture — what does the Bible say about baptism, who should be baptized, what does baptism do. The New Testament is unanimous that baptism matters and that Christ commanded it (Matthew 28:19), but Christian traditions differ honestly on its timing, mode, and meaning.
What scripture is clear on: baptism follows believing repentance (Acts 2:38), publicly identifies a person with Christ's death and resurrection (Romans 6:3-4), and signals incorporation into God's people (Galatians 3:27). 1 Peter 3:21 calls it "the answer of a good conscience toward God" — the outward yes that follows the inward yes. Acts 8:35-38 gives the model: the Ethiopian official believes, asks what hinders his being baptized, and is baptized that hour.
Where Christians honestly differ: infant baptism vs. believer's baptism, immersion vs. sprinkling, the precise relationship between the sign and the grace. These are real conversations to have with a pastor in a real church — not arguments to settle online.

Verses
Matthew 28:18-20
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Acts 2:38-39
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
Romans 6:3-4
Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
Galatians 3:27
For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
1 Peter 3:21
The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
Acts 8:35-38
Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus. And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.
