Few questions sit heavier in a quiet moment than what does the Bible say about salvation, or am I saved, or how can I be sure. Scripture answers them more plainly than most of us were taught. Salvation, in the Bible's frame, is not a transaction we earn but a gift we receive — accomplished by Jesus, offered to anyone who trusts him.
The clearest one-sentence summary is Ephesians 2:8-9: "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works." Romans 10:9 fills out what that trust looks like in practice — confessing Jesus as Lord and believing God raised him from the dead. John 3:16-17 names the motive behind the whole arrangement: love, not condemnation.
If you're here because you're afraid you missed it, or that you've done too much, or that your prayer didn't "work," the New Testament repeatedly stacks reassurance against those fears. 1 John 5:11-13 was written specifically so believers "may know that ye have eternal life." Titus 3:5 is explicit that it was "not by works of righteousness which we have done." The whole tilt of the gospel runs against the voice that says you must earn your place.
The verses below carry the weight of this in their own words. Read them slowly. The page also includes a short prayer — not a magic formula, just a way to put words around the simple act of trusting Christ. If you're carrying a different question — assurance after failure, fear of hell, doubt about whether it took — see also assurance of salvation, repentance, and grace.
Verses
Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Romans 10:9-10
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
John 3:16-17
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
Acts 16:31
And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Titus 3:5
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
1 John 5:11-13
And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
Reflection
If you took God at his word that salvation is a gift, what would change about how you live today?
