Bible verses about assurance of salvation

Many believers cycle through seasons of doubting whether they are truly saved. Scripture answers this question with a sustained reassurance — your standing rests on Christ, not on the strength of your feelings.

Assurance of salvation is one of the most common quiet struggles in Christian life. The fact that you're asking "am I really saved" — wanting to be — is itself a sign of life. The New Testament was written in part to settle this question. 1 John 5:13 is explicit: "These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life." Not hope; know.

Jesus' own promise in John 10:27-29 grounds the believer's security in his grip, not ours: "neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand." Philippians 1:6 carries the same logic: "he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ." Romans 8:38-39 lists everything that cannot separate us from God's love — and concludes that nothing can.

If your doubt is mostly emotional — a season of dryness, depression, a hard week — read the verses below and let scripture do the work your feelings can't. If your doubt is more structural — "I never really meant it," "I keep falling back" — repentance is the next step, not despair. Sin still affects a believer's experience of God; it does not erase the believer's standing.

Talk to a pastor if this question won't quiet down. Scrupulosity (religious OCD) sometimes underlies relentless doubting and needs more than scripture — it needs care. See also salvation, doubt, and shame.

What evidence has God already given you of his work in your life, that fear is making you forget?
